David Campo is a composer and marketing associate with Alias Press, an affiliated publisher of Theodore Presser Music. He has completed commissions for middle schools, high schools, universities and professional orchestras, including the Stephen F. Austin University Wind Ensemble, Clear Creek High School Wind Ensemble, Leaman Jr. High Band, the East Texas Chamber Winds, the University of Louisiana – Lafayette Wind Ensemble and The Acadiana Symphony. His music has been called "evocative, colorful and startlingly original" and has been performed nationally and internationally. Dr. Campo is also Professor Emeritus of Music and was Director of Bands at Stephen F. Austin State University until 2021. In 2004, Dr. Campo began his tenure at SFA as Associate Director of Bands and Director and exclusive arranger for The Lumberjack Marching Band. In 2012, under his direction, The Lumberjack Marching Band appeared in the London New Year’s Day Parade, and the SFA Wind Ensemble performed in historic Cadogan Hall on that same trip. The LMB has been featured in exhibition at the Texas 3A and 6A State Marching Contest in San Antonio in 2014 and 2018 respectively, and in 2015 marched in the historic Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In March of 2018, The Lumberjack Marching Band marched in the iconic St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. As Director of Bands, Dr. Campo directed the Wind Ensemble and coordinated the graduate conducting program at SFA and oversaw all aspects of a band program that engages over 400 student musicians. Prior to his appointment at SFA, he was a Doctoral Conducting Fellow at the University of Oklahoma, where he studied conducting with Dr. William K. Wakefield before receiving his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2007. From 1999 – 2001, Dr. Campo was the Associate Director of Bands at the University of Louisiana – Lafayette, where he supervised all athletic bands in addition to teaching conducting and directing the University concert band. For fifteen years, he taught at both the middle school and high school levels in Louisiana, where his bands received state and national recognition for their excellence. Dr. Campo's extensive knowledge of wind band pedagogy and extensive teaching experience coupled with his original voice makes his music not only interesting but imminently playable by groups of all ages. His works are published primarily by Alias Press, but he also has titles with Alfred Music, MSB Publishing and Trevco Music Publishing.
