A Gresford Chaconne was commissioned by the Leaman Junior High Band, Amy Bennett, director, to celebrate the retirement of her colleague Ronnie Pruitt. The chaconne setting is an homage to Gustav Holst, whose First Suite for Military Bands begins with arguably the most famous chaconne setting in wind band literature. The tranquil river and its scenic banks, adorned with live oaks draped in Spanish moss, provided the backdrop for early Cajun life as the river was a source of food, communication, travel and commerce.
